I’ve been breastfeeding my youngest for 1.5 years so I was shocked to realize I had mastitis recently. I battled with mastitis with my eldest years ago in the early months of breastfeeding when mastitis is most common. But I forgot that mastitis can occur at any time during breastfeeding. Causes may include a blocked milk duct or bacteria. Out of nowhere, I had the tell-tell signs: tender sore area of my right breast, painful nursing, chills, fever and a feeling of general malaise. It felt like some type of flu bug hit me.
